AVON, CT — Avon residents have until Friday, Oct. 30, to pay the second installment of their 2026 residential sewer bills without incurring late penalties, according to the town's Office of the Collector of Revenue.
The installment was due Oct. 1, but residents have until Oct. 30 to make payments without penalty.
Payments must be received by the town or postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service no later than Oct. 30 to avoid interest charges.
Under Connecticut law, overdue balances are subject to interest at a rate of 1.5% per month, or 18% annually, calculated from the original Oct. 1 due date.
A minimum interest charge of $2 applies to each overdue installment.
The town also reminded residents that all outstanding balances and back charges must be paid before payments can be applied to the current installment.
The Collector of Revenue's Office is encouraging residents who have already mailed or dropped off payments to verify that their payments were received and processed.
Residents should confirm that funds have been withdrawn from their bank accounts and that the amounts match what they owe.
The town said checking payment status before the deadline will give residents time to submit replacement payments if their original checks were not received or were written for incorrect amounts.
Residents can view their sewer bills and make secure online payments through the town's payment portal.
