
The Avon Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) would like to thank Melissa Gugliotti for her service as president over the past two years. The Board has appointed the following members to serve as executive committee members:
- Ken Sedlak, President – Ken served as vice president for the past two years and has been a member of the AVFD for 10 years. He is currently a Fire Police Lieutenant.
- Rob Shillington, Vice President – Rob has been on the Board for two years and has been a member of the AVFD for 19 years.
- Jean Barton, Secretary – Jean has been secretary for three years and has been a member of the AVFD for seven years. She is currently a Fire Police Lieutenant.
- Sue Jansen, Treasurer – Sue has been treasurer for the past year and has been an Administrative Support member of the AVFD for 7 years.
In addition, the Board welcomes new members Jamie DiPace, Dennis Bianchi, and Steve Johnson who join returning members David Bourgard and Lynn Sedlak.
Incorporated in 1943, the Avon Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects more than 18,000 people living in the 22.6 square mile area that makes up the Town of Avon. The Department’s mission is to provide fire suppression and prevention, life safety and rescue support, as well as other community support to the citizens of the Town of Avon. In addition, the Department provides mutual aid support to those surrounding communities that, in time of need, may request such assistance.

Staffed entirely by volunteers, the Avon Volunteer Fire Department prides itself on the selflessness and dedication of its 155 members – 68 firefighters, 13 fire police, 18 administrative members, 16 Explorers, 20 active veterans, 12 senior veterans, and eight associate members, all of whom play a vital role in the safety of Avon. The Department operates six companies and 15 pieces of apparatus, including a brush truck, ladder truck, tanker, rescue vehicle, boat, and pumpers. Four stations are located throughout Town – Company 1 on Darling Drive, Company 2 on Secret Lake Road, Company 3 on West Avon Road, and Company 4 on Huckleberry Hill Road.
