Susan Wright of Newington was the winner of the annual Kentucky Derby Hat Contest at the Farmington Woods Clubhouse, wearing her confection of lace, tulle and plumes. Entrants were judged on the beauty, the creativity and the personal craftsmanship of their chapeaux. “I got the base hat at the Dollar Store a few years ago,” laughed Wright, “and I just redecorate it every year.”
More than 100 attendees enjoyed the Derby celebration which also included a lawn croquet challenge, a bourbon-tasting, a race raffle and a Southern-inspired buffet.
