Assistant Principal Hired At Roaring Brook School
A new assistant principal has been hired at the local school.

AVON, CT — After a rigorous national search process, Ms. Susan Horvath was selected out of an impressive pool of over one hundred fifteen candidates to be the new Assistant Principal of Roaring Brook School in Avon. Ms. Horvath replaces Mr. Lawrence “Larry” Sparks who retired effective June 30, 2019.
Ms. Horvath began her career in the corporate environment before making the transition to education. She began her career in 2007 as a 5th grade teacher at Windermere Elementary School in Ellington, Connecticut. In 2016, she left the classroom and served as a Numeracy Specialist and Lead Teacher at Windermere. In this position, Ms. Horvath worked with students and staff to support mathematics instruction and skill development, while also working closely with school administrators to develop, lead, and manage programming to meet the needs of all students and staff. In particular she assisted in implementing student-led conferences, challenging advanced learners as the Gifted and Talented Program Coordinator, and facilitating learning walks to monitor school-wide student learning and instructional strategies.

Roaring Brook Principal Noam Sturm said, “Susan demonstrates a wonderfully proactive presence - she works to be visible, accessible, and a tremendously positive member of every school community she has been a part of. During the interview, one of Susan's many notable responses was her comment related to change - she stated that she believes it's critical that 'we view that which is new as different, rather than difficult.' We are thrilled to welcome Susan to RBS family.”

Upon her appointment, Ms. Horvath stated, “I am honored and excited to be appointed Assistant Principal of Roaring Brook School, and join a dynamic staff that is so dedicated to student learning. I look forward to getting to know the staff, students and families in the RBS community, and working together as a team to continue the learning that is already embedded in the school culture and climate. Partnering with all stakeholders to ensure a positive and enriching elementary experience for all of our students is a passion for me, and I am thrilled to be able to do so in the Avon Public Schools.”
