AVFD Asking Residents to Adopt Hydrants This Winter

AVON, CT — The Avon Volunteer Fire Department has an idea for residents this winter — adopt a hydrant.

"Please, as you get out to clear your driveways and walkways, don't forget to adopt the nearest hydrant," AVFD officials said in a puboic service announcement posted on Facebook.

Here is how:

• Remove any snow and ice from around the hydrant
• Clear an area 3 feet around the hydrant
• Clear a path from the hydrant to the street
