Avon Already At Yearly Average For Home Burglaries: Report

AVON, CT — Avon police Wednesday released a report in criminal activity in town over the first part of 2023 with an emphasis on automobile and home burglaries.

There have been no homicides, arsons or weapons offenses in town so far this year, police said.

A total of eight stolen cars have been reported in Avon, according to the report. Police said they believe two groups of young men fro Meriden have been involved since cars have been located there.

High-end vehicles seem to be the targets, according to the report. A state-administered grant is funding a dedicated investigation into vehicle thefts and so far , evidence has been collected, including DNA samples at the various scenes, according to the report.

During the first three months of 2023, nine residential burglaries have been reported in Avon, according to the report. The previous years average over the past four has been 9.5, according to the report. The window of focus is from Jan. 30 through Feb. 15.

The report cites a "South American" theft group consisting of "three to four males" as the primary group of interest. Group members, clad in masks and hoodies and gloves, seem to prefer unoccupied homes and the homeowners were on vacation at the time, causing delays in reporting the incidents, according to the report.

Police have several leads in the cases, according to the report.
