Avon Athlete Earns Collegiate Honor
The freshman field hockey player scored a game-winning goal in overtime.

TROY, NY — Olivia Jackson of Avon, a student-athlete on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team, has been chosen as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week in her sport, the conference has announced.
A freshman midfielder, the Avon High School graduate scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Engineers came from behind to defeat Ithaca College, 2-1, in a league road contest. It was her only shot of the game and it came off a deflection on a penalty corner.
The goal was the third of the season for Jackson, who has played 14 games. Her first career goal came in a 6-2 win over Utica College on Sept. 13 and her second was at nationally-ranked William Smith College on Sept. 30.

Jackson, who has started three contests, has six shots with four on goal.
She played three years of varsity field hockey at Avon, two as a starter and one as a captain. Jackson earned All-Conference and All-State as a senior, while also being recognized with a National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic Award. She helped Avon to the NCCC Championships in 2013 and 2014 and the state tournament Final Four three times.

Jackson also played three years of varsity lacrosse, serving as team captain for one season.
