Avon Athletes are well represented on the Spring All-Courant teams

    The Hartford Courant announced its 2014 Spring All-Courant teams today, and Avon High School's new Athletic Director, Greg Ferry was happy to see that his school's athletes were well-represented.  "This is exciting news to read my first week into the job," he explained, adding: "We're going to build on this success, for sure."

     Avon's Girls Golf team led the way with the most prestigious award:  Senior captain Marissa Grillo was named Spring Player of the Year for golf, in addition to making the All-Courant team.  Grillo's team mates Anna Grant, Melissa Horovitz and Leeza Lavrorva, all seniors, were recognized with Honorable Mentions. Three members of the Boys Golf team also earned Honorable Mentions: Freshman Matthew Jake Avery, Sophomore Marcus Husted and Junior Zach Mateja.
   
     Both the Girls and Boys Tennis Teams had excellent representation in the Courant this spring. Seniors Hannah Dahlem and John Burdick both made the All-Courant team as singles players, while the team of Junior Mike Arciero and Sophomore Mike Thramman qualified as doubles players. Qualifying for Honorable Mention were their team mates: Singles players Pam Fetzer (senior) and Eric Selzer (junior), and the doubles teams of sisters Hannah and Maddie Clark (seniors), Austin Chen and Alex Herz (freshmen), and Andre Wang and Chris Haynes (junior, senior, respectively).

     The Girls Lacrosse team produced five total winners this season with Junior Midfielder Hannah Davey, and Senior tri-captains Britt Douglass and Paige Hammick making the All-Courant team, while junior Sammy Maniatty and senior tri-captain Emily Wright earned Honorable Mention.  On the Boys Lacrosse side, Senior Goalie Sean Glover made the Honorable Mention list.   
     
     Rounding out Avon's Spring All-Courant honors was Track and Field - with Seniors Justin Reichler and Jacob Sartain from the boys team, and junior Maddi McHugh from the girls team, winning Honorable Mentions - and Baseball, with senior pitcher Noah Hahn also winning an Honorable Mention.
