Avon Community To Gather For 9-11 Ceremony
A memorial service for the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attack victims will take place Wednesday morning.

AVON, CT — The Avon Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday is hsting a special memorial service to remember the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
It will take place at 7:45 a.m. at the Avon Volunteer Fire Department Headquarters at 25 Darling Drive, Avon. The public is invited to attend.
"It has been 23 years since that fateful day. We will convene to remember, reflect and recommit ourselves," said AVFD Chief Bruce Appell in a statement.

The service will reflect on what happened that terrible day when terrorist-hijacked planes destroyed the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in New York, struck the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and crashed in a field in Pennsylvania en route to D.C.
In all, about 3,000 people were killed in the shocking attacks, forever changing the level of safety many Americans felt at the time.

Much of the dead, especially in New York, were police and firefighters rushing to save those trapped.
