Avon Cosmetic Surgeon Crusades for Crohn’s Disease
Dr. Paul Stanislaw Will Donate Cancelled Consultation Fees During Awareness Month in May

Dr. Paul Stanislaw, a Facial Plastic Surgeon, is dedicated to helping people feel better by improving their outward appearance. Now the physician wants to help people who suffer from Crohn’s disease heal on the inside by launching an awareness and fundraising campaign in May. Starting on May 1, Dr. Stanislaw will donate all $100 consultation cancellation fees to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
“A close family member suffers with this debilitating bowel disease and I want to do my part to aid in research and treatment,” said Dr. Stanislaw, Founder of Stanislaw Facial Plastic Surgery Center. “I have seen firsthand the daily physical and emotional toll this life-long condition can have on a person.”
In addition to making a monetary donation, Dr. Stanislaw will have educational literature about Crohn’s disease available in his office located at 35 Nod Rd. Suite 204 in Avon. The month of May is dedicated to shining a light on the symptoms and treatments of Crohn’s and Colitis.
Dr. Stanislaw explains Crohn’s disease is a chronic condition of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and one of several inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). The body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the harmless bacteria in the intestines causing inflammation, ulceration and thickening of the intestinal wall. A diagnosis of Crohn’s is available with testing from a doctor.
Additionally, Dr. Stanislaw shares more information from CrohnsColitisFoundation.org: The causes of Crohn’s disease are not well understood. Diet and stress may aggravate Crohn’s, but they do not cause the disease on their own. Recent research suggests, genetic, and environmental factors contribute to the development of Crohn’s Disease.

Men and women are equally likely to be affected, and while the disease can occur at any age, Crohn's is more prevalent among adolescents and young adults between the ages of 15 and 35. Among younger children, Crohn's may delay growth and development.
Symptoms include:
- Persistent Diarrhea
- Rectal bleeding
- Urgent need to move bowels
- Abdominal cramps and pain
- Weight Loss and malnutrition
- Fatigue
- Sensation of incomplete evacuation
Dr. Stanislaw notes there is no cure or standard treatment for Crohn’s. Treatment can include medications that suppress the immune system combined with alterations in diet and nutrition. About 70% of people with Crohn’s disease eventually require surgery to repair or remove affected portions of the GI tract.
As is often the case for anyone living with a chronic disease, people with Crohn’s can suffer from depression. People may also have anxiety about experiencing symptoms in social situations and telling people about their condition.
“My goals are to increase public awareness about Crohn’s and fund research for better treatments,” concluded Dr. Stanislaw. “Just as there has been a greater understanding about Celiac disease and its symptoms, the more people know about Crohn’s, the easier it will be for those affected by it to have a better quality of life.”
