Avon Crew Has Winning Spring Season

Avon's growing Crew program upped the ante with a stellar spring season.  Under the leadership of head coaches Eric Rosow and Jon Kostal, multiple boats placed in tough competition and many posted their best times.  A record 5 student-athletes will continue their rowing careers at the collegiate level.  

At the CT Public School Rowing Association (CPSRA) Championships, held at Lake Waramaug on May 18th, more Avon boats made it to finals and earned medals than in any other season.  Winners included:

BOYS NOVICE 8+ -- First Place
Rowers:
Matt Bagley, Matt Tyler, Jared Culbertson, Will Kostal, Anthony Campanelli, Danyal Qureshi, Ben Coleman, Stephen Pang
Coxswain: Spencer Sonnenberg
 
GIRLS FIRST VARSITY 4+ -- Second Place  (and an undefeated regular season)
Rowers:
Marinna Binkowski, Sierra Mazur, Maya Regalado, Anna McCormick
Coxswain: Jess Wert
 
GIRLS NOVICE 8+ -- Third Place
Rowers:
Grace Baldauf, Lauren Jeandell, Marissa Canova, Effie Lombard, Katie Horovitz, Mackenzie Fischer, Annie Hayes, Lexi Pastizzo
Coxswain: Tali Filstein
 
GIRLS SECOND VARSITY 4+ -- Third Place
Rowers:
Julia Canova, Eva Gaston, Tess Murphy, Rya MacDonald-Soccorso
Coxswain: Jordyn Saxe
 
Of Note: BOYS FIRST VARSITY 4+ (Jon Arciero, Alec Whipple, Frank Campanelli, Jack Kostal; coxswain Megan Boos) made it to the finals and finished 4th, missing a medal by less than one second.
