Avon Earns Chance to Defend Class L Soccer Title

The Falcons outlasted Daniel Hand on penalty kicks to advance to their second straight Class L championship game.

After sharing the Class L soccer championship last year with Branford, Avon would like the chance to win the title outright this season.

The Falcons will have that opportunity Saturday, as they will return to the Class L title matchup after upsetting No. 2 seed Daniel Hand 3-2 in the semifinals Wednesday night in Hamden.

The teams were tied 2-2 through100 minutes of regulation play plus overtime, so the game was decided on penalty kicks. The Falcons prevailed in the shootout by a 3-1 margin to earn a return trip to the finals.
