Avon Extends Cooling Centers

With high temperatures expected through the weekend and early next week, Avon has extended the time for its cooling centers to be open.

AVON, CT — With the forecasted extreme temperatures expected to continue through the weekend and into early next week, the town is continuing to designate cooling centers which will be available for residents to seek relief from the heat.

The Avon Free Public Library is located at 281 Country Club Road and staff can be reached at (860) 673-9712 with questions.

Its cooling center will be available during their regular operating hours which can be viewed HERE.

Please note that the library is not open on Sundays during the summer months.

The Avon Senior Center is located at 635 West Avon Road and staff can be reached at (860) 675-4355 with questions.

That cooling center will be available Friday, Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If residents are in need of relief from the heat on Saturday afternoon (8/6) or anytime Sunday (8/7) when the Library is closed, please call non-emergency dispatch at (860) 409-4200 and the town will make arrangements to provide you with access to a cooling facility.

Please note that protective face coverings are recommended but not required when entering town buildings at this time.
