Avon FD Needs Help To Reach Fundraising Goal
The Avon Volunteer Fire Department says it needs the public's help to keep the department an all-volunteer firefighting agency.
AVON, CT — The Avon Volunteer Fire Department is in the midst of a fund-raising drive to collect $65,000 in donations and it is very, very close to that goal.
But to reach it, the AVFD needs the public to dig down just a little bit more.
Going into the new year, the AVFD was hoping to raise donations to help department operations, which are all volunteer-driven.

As of Thursday, the department reported it has raised $59,000, 91 percent of its goal.
The hope is the AVFD can continuously maintain a donation revenue stream that will keep the department a volunteer organization.

Otherwise, the town may be forced to operate a more costly paid department in order to maintain the same emergency responder coverage.
"The Avon Volunteer Fire Department functions from generous donations from the Avon community," wrote the AVFD. "Our ability to provide outstanding emergency services comes from the training, equipment, and services that the department is able to dispense through donations to our volunteer members."
