Avon Forum To Discuss Second Homes On House Lots
Small houses on house lots are allowed in Avon, with the town hosting a forum Saturday to discuss what is and isn't allowed.

AVON, CT — A so-called "ADU" is not something from NASA that powers a rocket.
It's much simpler than that, and they're also permitted in Avon.
ADU stands for "accessory dwelling unit," and on Saturday, Avon officials will host a unique forum to fill residents in on something they might want to install at their homes if and when the snow melts.

The program, called "What is an ADU," will take place at the Avon Free Public Library on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
There, town officials will discuss these units, what is allowed in Avon, and how folks can properly go about installing one.

"These are self-contained dwelling units that are separate from the main home on a property–and they’re allowed in Avon," wrote the town in an announcement.
Speaking at the forum are Avon Director of Planning and Community Development Hiram Peck III and Jason Richitelli, who works for the ADU Builders of CT.
After the presentation, both will be available for questions and answers with guests.
Known as "granny flats" or "backyard cottages," ADUs serve as flexible,, on-site housing options for family members, caregivers, or as rental units to generate income.
