AVON/WEST HARTFORD, CT — A two-year-old organization aimed at promoting and encouraging community diversity is hosting its second-annual "Community Festival" this Saturday.

According to Avon Friends for Equity, families can visit Elizabeth Park in West Hartford from 2 to 4 p.m., for an afternoon of food, music and fun for the family.

The organization was only formed in the summer of 2020 amid a pledge to improve and encourage respect for diversity in the Avon School System and community.

"Since we formed in the summer of 2020, we gained over 200 members and supporters.

"As parents in a predominantly white, but diversifying community, we believe it is our responsibility to educate ourselves about equity and anti-racism, support and act where needed, and serve as role models for our kids."

This year's program promises Caribbean food and music, with all Avon Public Schools students and their families encouraged to attend.

"Last year’s event was highly successful and many new connections and friendships were formed. Let’s keep coming together to strengthen our community," wrote the organization in an announcement.

The rain date is Saturday, Nov. 5, but the weather forecast is looking good for this Saturday.
