Avon High Senior Earns Prestigious Scholarship
The student was one of a few in Connecticut to get a National Merit Scholarship Award.
AVON, CT — An Avon High School senior was named one of several winners of prestigious $2,500 scholarships, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corp. on Tuesday.
According to the Evanston, Ill.,-based organization, Julia Zheng of AHS was her school's lone scholarship recipient and she plans to have a career in higher education.
The merit scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 finalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Winners are judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in college.
Scholars were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors.

The majority of scholarships are underwritten by approximately 340 independent corporate
and college sponsors.
