Avon Hike To Explore Farmington River Canals
The event will take place on Saturday morning.
AVON, CT — The town's recreation department is hosting a free, guided hike Saturday morning at one of the town's more historic passive recreation locales.
The Avon Parks and Recreation Department is conducting its adult hiking "Fall Series" on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 9:45 a.m. to walk the Farmington Canal at the Farmington River.
Co-sponsored by theAvon Historical Society and Sub-Edge Farm in Farmington, the event will feature local historical Carl Walter, who will take hikers on a journey looking at a time when waterways were the means to transport goods from town to town.

The hike will trace the canal from the Farmington River Aqueduct to Thompson Brook.
Participants will assemble at the boat launch area on Old Farms Road, Avon, at 9:45 a.m., with the hike beginning at 10 a.m.
