Avon Honored For Efforts To Help Older Residents Age Well

AVON, CT — The Town of Avon has received a statewide award recognizing its efforts to make the community more inclusive and supportive of older residents.

Avon was selected for the 2026 Local Government Wellspring Award from the Connecticut Age Well Collaborative, an initiative of Connecticut Community Care, town officials announced.

The recognition highlights Avon's work to help older adults age well and its participation in the Collaborative's 2026 Community Leaders Fellowship program.

As part of the fellowship, the town has been working with older Avon residents to develop a comprehensive local resource guide based on the Collaborative's livability framework.

The guide will identify services and resources available in Avon while also raising awareness about how internalized, interpersonal, and institutional ageism can create barriers to accessing those services, according to the town.

Avon plans to publish the completed guide on the town website and Facebook page when it becomes available.

Town officials said the recognition reflects the "hard work, authenticity, perseverance, and collaboration" demonstrated during the fellowship process.

"Avon remains dedicated to strengthening community connections and ensuring that residents of all ages can thrive," the town said in a statement this week.

The Connecticut Age Well Collaborative honored Avon during AgeWell Fest: Celebration on Sept. 15.
