Avon Lecture Program To Delve Into Ancient Foraging Practices

AVON, CT — Another program in a longstanding archaeology lecture series central to Avon will take place this week virtually.
The lecture series is a partnership of the Avon Historical Society, Avon Free Public Library, and the Avon Senior Center.

The third lecture in their fourth annual five-part webinar series “Unearthing History: The Discovery of a 12,500-year-old Paleo-Indian Site along the Farmington River in Avon, CT.”
This lecture entitled “Foraging in the Paleoindian Period: A Macrobotanical Analysis” will be
presented by Katharine Reinhart, project archaeologist/botanical analyst at Archaeological and
Historical Services, Storrs.

It will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024, beginning at 7 p.m. via Zoom through a link from the Library. It is available free of charge. Sign up at this link.
Partners in this series include the Farmington River Watershed Association, Institute of
American Indian Studies, Washington, and The Avon Land Trust.
The fourth webinar entitled “Microscopic Evidence for the Manufacture and Use of Stone Artifacts” will be held on at a date to be announced in September.
It will be presented by G. Logan Miller, Assoc. Professor Anthropology, Illinois State University.
