Avon Library To Host Forum On Affordable Housing Thursday
The program, part of the ongoing 'Poverty: A Community Conversation' series, will feature four panelists to discuss CT housing issues.

AVON, CT — The local library is hosting another program Thursday as part of its "Poverty: A Community Conversation" series.
A panel discussion called "Housing in Connecticut,"moderated by Avon resident Carrie Firestone, will take place in the Avon Free Public Library Community Room on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 PM.

Panelists include:
• Simsbury resident Peter Harrison of Desegregate CT, who has over a decade of experience in tenant organizing and housing and climate policy research.

• Ginny Monk, who is CT Mirror‘s children’s issues and housing reporter and a Report for America corps member.
• State Rep. Eleni Kavros DeGraw, D- Avon, who was elected in November 2020 to represent the 17th District that includes Avon and Canton.
• Carrie Firestone, who is an educator and children’s literature author. She co-founded ForwardCT, a grassroots community service and advocacy organization, with DeGraw, and serves as the chair of the Avon Clean Energy Commission.
Folks are asked to register to attend this event to allow for the community room up to have appropriate seating.
The Poverty: A Community Conversation programming series is funded by the Avon Greater Together Community Fund, in collaboration with the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and Avon Friends for Equity, and hosted by the Avon Free Public Library.
