Avon Library Virtual Program Explores Meditation
The event will feature a Stanford University professor on Thursday, March 16.
AVON, CT — The Avon Free Public Library is hosting a virtual event next week that promises to calm the soul and ease the mind — or vice versa.
It is hosting an event called "Meditation and the Brain" on Thursday, March 16 at 7 p.m.
"Ever wonder what meditation is all about and how meditation works? Please join, Dr. Manish Saggar, an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Stanford University School of Medicine and a long time meditator, who speaks nationally on this topic," wrote the Town of Avon in a recent announcement.

In the program, Saggar will explore psychological, as well as traditional views, on how meditation benefits practioners on numerous levels.
He will also share certain studies that show how meditation enhances brain functioning.

In addition, there will be a short meditation session.
Saggar's lab is dedicated to developing computational methods that could allow for anchoring psychiatric diagnosis into biological features.
