Avon Moves Into Top 10 of State Field Hockey Poll

The Falcons have outscored opponents by a margin of 25-8 this season.

Darien and Norwalk engaged in a close battle for the top spot in the latest weekly Connecticut field hockey coaches poll.

Darien (8-0-1) garnered five of eight first-place votes to earn the number one ranking, while Norwalk (8-0) received the other three first-place votes to place second.

Avon (5-1-0-1) cracked the top 10 in the most recent balloting.

Here are the top 10 teams, plus others who received votes, with records through Oct. 4.

  2. Norwalk (8-0)
  3. Daniel Hand (7-0-1)
  4. Enfield (6-0)
  5. Glastonbury (7-1)
  6. Greenwich (6-1)
  7. Granby Memorial (7-0)
  8. Cheshire (7-0-0-1)
  9. North Branford (10-0-1)
  10. Avon (5-1-0-1)

Also receiving votes: South Windsor (6-1-1), Staples (7-1), Pomperaug (6-0-2), Wilton (6-2-0-1), Guilford (5-1-1).
