Avon Obituary: John King, 98

Condolences to his family and friends.

John P. King, 98, of Avon, beloved husband of the late Rose (Bonini) King, died October, 28, 2015.

Born in Walthill, Nebraska to the late Melville and Melvina King, he was raised in Missouri and later moved to Southwick, MA. John served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He lived in Avon for over 70 years, where he owned and operated King Construction Co. doing site excavation and road construction for many years. In 1973 he became employed by the Avon Old Farms School where he worked in the Engineering Services department until his retirement at the age of 90.

John was a member of the Prince Thomas of Savoy Society, American Legion Post #201, and was on the board of the Evergreen Cemetery Association. He was a boating and motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, bowler, and bocce player. John was also a faithful fan of the UConn Lady Huskies basketball team.

John is survived by son David J. King of Alexandria, VA and daughter Linda L. Kobylarz and her husband Thomas of Burlington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Marie Evans of Avon, Dan Roncaioli of Barkhamsted, Mary Ann Dale of MD, Andrea Lapinski, Nancy Kenyon, Robert Bonini, William Bonini, Richard King, and Donald King all of MA, and Winifred Jones of MO. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy Bolton and Neva Chase, and his brothers, Richard, Victor, Hubert, Arthur, Jacob, and Paul King.

John’s family will receive friends on Monday, November 2, from 5-8 PM at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. Family and friends may gather Tuesday at 9:15 AM at Carmon’s followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon. Burial will follow in Saint Ann Cemetery with military honors.
