Avon Obituary: Lawrence Moynihan, 79

Condolences to his family and friends.

Lawrence E. Moynihan, 79, of Avon, beloved husband of the late Joan (Gagliard) Moynihan for 51 years, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016.

Born in Syracuse, NY, he was one of six children of the late Andrew and Margaret Mary (Noon) Moynihan. He was a Corporal in the US Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. Much of his career as an accountant was with the Travelers Insurance Co. until his retirement in 1995.

Larry and Joan lived in Avon for almost 30 years. He was a devoted family man, avid Red Sox and Celtics fan, and enjoyed gardening.

He leaves his son, Dr. James A. Moynihan and his wife Dr. Karen Moynihan of Redlands, CA; his daughter Susan Frances Moynihan of Avon; three granddaughters, Johannah E., Kathleen C., and Samantha S. Moynihan; brothers Dr. Andrew Moynihan (Mary Ellen) of Wrentham, MA, James Moynihan (Sheila) of VA; sister Patricia Buckley (Michael) of Mansfield, MA; sisters-in-law Patricia Moynihan of AZ and Terry Moynihan of Wellesley, MA; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brothers William and Michael Moynihan.

Larry's family will receive friends on Saturday, October 8, from 8 -9:30 AM at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 145 Main Street, Unionville. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon with Marine Corp honors.
