Avon Obituary: Pauline Robinson, 96

Condolences to her family and friends.

Pauline (Ries) Robinson, 96, of Avon, passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Wednesday December 27, surrounded by her family. Married to Donald Wallace Robinson, deceased in 2014, they shared 67 years that was focused on faith and family.

She was born to Isabelle and Herman E. Ries in Milwaukee, WI on June 27, 1921. Polly is predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Edward and Robert Ries. Before her marriage to Don in 1947, she was employed by Singer Sewing Company in Milwaukee as a seamstress and salesperson. After their marriage, they relocated to begin careers at Chance Vaught Aerospace in Fairfield; she as a draftsperson on the Corsair F4U aircraft and he as an aerodynamicist.

She leaves her four children and their families; daughter Louise Talotta and her husband Bruno of Farmington, son Douglas Robinson and his wife Dana of Westport, son Gordon Robinson and his wife Tina of New Port Richey, FLA and daughter Paula Robinson of Avon. She enjoyed time with her 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; Erik Person and his wife Melissa, Michael, Daniel and John Robinson, Giles Rutson, James Graham, Michael and Jessica Rubin, Kevin Robillard, Gregg Robinson and Jacob and Isabelle Person. They were all close to their grandmother who led a life they admired and learned from.

She focused on raising her family in Avon, where they lived since 1965. The family has many memories of her talents in flower arranging and community volunteerism. She held leadership roles on many church and community committees such as the Alter Guild as a longtime member of Christ Church Episcopal in Avon and through her fifty-year membership in the Avon Garden Club where she served as President.

Polly was active in community outreach visiting the homebound, and serving residents through Meals-on-Wheels. Her love of nature and the sea was important to her and she enjoyed many sailing trips with Don and their four children while spending summers on the Maine coast. Her personal values were grounded in faith and she was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Avon while continuing to live independently in her family home in Avon.

Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Thursday, January 4 from 6:30-8:30pm. A service honoring her life will be held at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, Avon, on Friday, January 5 at 12:00 pm. Burial will be held privately at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Lovely Street, Avon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 224 Lovely Street, Route 177, Avon, CT 06001, designated for community or mission outreach.
