Avon Obituary: Robert Hugel, 91

Condolences to his family and friends.

Robert G. Hugel, 91, of Avon, beloved husband of the late Audrey (Bell) Hugel, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016.

Born in Bronx, NY, son of the late George and Mabel (Larsen) Hugel, he was raised there and served in the US Army as an airplane armorer gunner in combat during WWII. After the war, he earned a BA from Rider University and spent his early career with his family insurance agency, Sentinel Insurance Agency in NYC. He also was employed by the insurance department of General Telephone before moving to CT in 1964 when he started as insurance manager for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. He retired as Assistant Treasurer Risk Manager from United Technologies in 1988.

An avid tennis player, he was a member of the Golf Club of Avon and Farmington Farms. He was a member of Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, Avon and was past Treasurer of the Friends of Heublein Tower and enjoyed reading.

He leaves two sons Drevet G. Hugel of Southampton, NY and Craig R. Hugel and his wife Lisa of Simsbury; a daughter Lynn H.R. Monterville and her husband Gary of Terryville; one brother Ronald Hugel and his wife Mitzie of Blue Bell, PA; sister-in-law Phyllis Hugel of Valhalla, NY; five grandchildren Stephanie Bell Bahre, Kendall J. Rogers, David A. Hugel, Stephen C. Hugel and his fiancé Hanna, and Laura E. Hugel; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Audrey, he was predeceased by a brother Richard Hugel.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at 2PM directly at Evergreen Cemetery, Climax, Road, Avon. The Rev. Daniel Hille will officiate followed by military honors. His family will then receive friends Sunday, Oct 30, 2016, from 3-5 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon.
