Avon Opens 'Cooling Centers' For Heat Wave
Starting Tuesday, town's library and senior center will be a place to beat the heat.

AVON, CT — The expected heat wave starting Tuesday has the Town of Avon activating cooling centers, with temperatures expected to be in the 90s well into the weekend.
Monday, the Town of Avon posted a notice of its intentions on the town website.
As a result, the town is designated the Avon Free Public Library and the Avon Senior Center as designated "cooling centers, which will be available for residents to seek relief from the heat."

The Avon Free Public Library is located at 281 Country Club Road and staff can be reached at (860) 673-9712 with any questions.
Its cooling center will be available Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Avon Senior Center is located at 635 West Avon Road and staff can be reached at (860) 675-4355 with any questions.
That cooling center will be available Tuesday through Friday this week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"Please note that protective face coverings are recommended but not required when entering town buildings at this time," reads an announcement posted Monday on the Avon website.
