Avon PD Honors Retired Animal Control Officer

AVON, CT — The local police department officially said goodbye recently to the longtime official responsible for the safety from and safety of animals in town.

Late last week, the Avon Police Department honored recently retired animal control officer Beverly LaPlume, who was the ACO for both Avoc and the Town of Canton.

She had been the ACO since 2006.

"Since day one, she has made it her mission to help and educate the public," wrote the Avon PD on Facebook.

"Over the years, Beverly has responded to thousands of calls and recently found out that more the 1,800 dogs have been reunited with their owners or adopted as a direct result of her efforts. Beverly will certainly be missed by the many friends she has made. Both two-legged and four."

The Town of Avon is currently in the process of finding a replacement for LaPlume and residents are advised to call the department's routine line at 860-409-4200 regarding any animal concerns or questions.
