Schmalberger said, shortly after the call, the driver made the next scheduled stop.

That's when, "with the help of a parent, all of the kids safely exited the bus," he said.

Police said the driver continued to follow protocol and "proceeded with the bus route with an empty bus."

Afterward, the APD located the bus in town and spoke with the driver.

"Additionally, we did not receive any reports from other motorists of erratic driving by the bus and there was no indication of impaired driving," Schmalberger said.

"We have spoken to all parties involved and are currently organizing and documenting all of the information."

The Avon School System is reportedly working with police and the bus company regarding the situation, sending a message to the school community regarding the incident.
