Avon Police Report Rise Of House Burglaries

On Thursday, the Avon Police Department responded to two reported home break-ins at about the same time.

AVON, CT — Local police Friday said they're investigating multiple residential burglaries in recent weeks, with two reported home break-ins Thursday.

According to Avon police, at 6:11 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a report of a residential burglarly on Woodford Hills.

It was then that, while officers were en route to investigate that report, additional police were sent to Hazen Drive for another reported home burglary, police said.

Police said the point of entry in both was made by breaking into the rear door/slider of the homes.

"These break-ins occurred at random times and the homes were unoccupied at the time of break-in," Avon police wrote in a statement Friday afternoon. "Each of the burglaries are under investigation by the Avon Police Department."

Because of the rise in home break-ins, police are alerting residents of this uptick, with four reported "in the last few weeks."

"We encourage residents to take proactive measures to help prevent burglaries," wrote police.

Among those steps are: leaving lights on in the home, even when unoccupied; activating the home security system; and keeping an eye out and immediately reporting any suspicious vehicles/activity.

"These burglaries have not been limited to the town of Avon and are occurring in other towns around the state," wrote the APD. "Avon Police Detectives are working collaboratively with those agencies."
