Avon Police: Walmart Bomb Threat A Hoax
The store was evacuated briefly Thursday afternoon 'out of an abundance of caution.'

AVON, CT — Some Thursday afternoon drama at a Walmart store in Avon turned out to be a hoax, as police said a reported bomb threat was just that — a threat.
Avon police said they received a call from the store, which is located at 255 W. Main St., at 3:09 p.m. indicated the store got a phone call from an unknown person saying a bomb was in the store.
When police arrived, customers and staff were already evacuating the building, police said, something being done "out of an abundance of caution."

Police, along with Walmart staff, did a "walk-through" of the entire store, which showed nothing out of the ordinary.
"After obtaining more details about the phone call from store employees, it is believed that the bomb threat was a hoax," police said in a statement Thursday evening.

Eventually, the store reopened by 5 p.m., police said.
