Scammers are claiming to be Avon police officers and they're seeking money, according to the APD.

AVON, CT — Local police are warning residents of a phone scam making its way around town.

The Avon Police Department said scammers are calling claiming to be with the Avon Police Department and demanding money.

According to the APD, the claim is that folks being called "failed to testify at a grand jury" and, as a result, they owe the APD "thousands of dollars."

This obviously false narrative, police said, "simply isn't true."

Police said anyone who gets a suspicious call, email or letter similar to this narrative should contact the Avon Police Department at 860-409-4200.'
