Avon Program Helps Those Caring For Loved Ones With Dementia
The first program in the five-week series starts on Wednesday, July 12.
AVON, CT — Hartford Healthcare and the Avon Senior Center next week will begin hosting a special five-part program aimed at helping folks tasked with caring for loved ones with dementia.
The free series starts on Wednesday, July 12, and continues each Wednesday there after from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Avon Senior Center, 635 W. Avon Road, Avon.
The program is presented by Michelle Wyman and Patty O'Brian, both dementia specialists with the Hartford Healthcare Center for Health Aging.

Program topics are:
• July 12 — Overview of dementia.

• July 19 — Basics of communication and understanding behaviors.
• July 26 — Safety and how to structure daily activities.
• Aug. 2 — Caring for the care partner.
• Aug. 9 — Community resources
To get the maximum benefit of the program, participants are encouraged to attend all five sessions.
Though free, registration for the program is required and those interested should call the Avon Senior Center at 860-675-4355 to RSVP.
