AVON/CANTON, CT — A local scholarship program for Avon students will get a nice boost courtesy of a Canton-based, fast-casual Mexican eatery on Wednesday.

"Avon Dollars for Scholars" is having a fundraising event at the Chipotle restaurant located at 110 Albany Turnpike in nearby Canton on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

From 4 to 8 p.m. that evening, 33 percent of Chipotle sales will go toward the scholarship program for Avon students, helping many pay for higher education when they graduate high school.

To donate to the, folks can show a flyer in the restaurant or use the code GP763R4 for online pickup orders.

"Avon Dollars for Scholars" is an ongoing community initiative to raise money for students to pay for college and its open to any Avon resident graduating from high school and enrolling in a two-year, four-year, vocational or technical college.

The scholarship applications are available in the students' high school guidance office, with the area community donating funds to help the fund grow and keep helping.

Fundraisers like the Chipotle event are designed to grow the scholarship fund's coffers.
