Avon School Set to "Whip" Childhood Cancer
Pediatric cancer awareness and action campaign starts Friday afternoon.

September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. More than 40,000 children are in cancer treatment each year with only three new pediatric cancer medications developed in the last 20 years (according to Curesearch.org). Currently, National Cancer Institute only gives 4% to pediatric cancer research.
The student body and faculty of Thompson Brook School will be kicking off a pediatric cancer awareness and action campaign at an all school town hall meeting, Friday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. As part of the kickoff, members of the faculty will take a whipped cream pie to the face delivered by two student cancer survivors!
Funds raised throughout the year will be donated equally to two charities that have touched the student survivors. The New England chapter of Sunshine Kids: a non profit organization dedicated to children with cancer. They are committed to providing positive group activities and emotional support for young cancer patients. The Tyler Robinson Foundation, strengthening families financially and emotionally as they cope with the tragedy of a pediatric cancer diagnosis by providing hope, information and relief through financial services, caring volunteers and monetary grants.
