Avon Schools Targeted In Cyberattacks: Report

Avon schools are one of many districts that have been targeted by hackers.

AVON, CT — The Associated Press reported that rampant cyberattacks on the Avon Public School system have overwhelmed the district's network. There was no breach of sensitive data files, but the attacks have proven costly to instructional time as the internet ground to a halt.

"The first time I called the FBI, their first question was, 'Well, what did it cost you?'" Robert Vojtek, the district's technology director, told the AP. "It's like, 'Well, we were down for three quarters of a day, we have 4,000 students, we have almost 500 adults, and teaching and learning stopped for an entire day.' So how do you put a price tag on that?"

These kinds of attacks often banks and anywhere sensitive data is stored. Now they're targeting school systems nationwide, with hackers often making technological tools for the classroom useless.
