Avon Selling 2026-27 Transfer Station Permits, What You Need To Know

AVON, Conn. — Avon residents can now purchase permits for the town's landfill and transfer station for the 2026-27 fiscal year, according to town officials.

Sales began June 1 through the Avon Collector of Revenue Office at 60 West Main St., Building 2.

The town offers three permit options: a full residential permit for $125, a senior full permit for residents age 62 and older for $65, and a recycle-only permit for $40.

The Avon Transfer Station (aka the 'Avon Landfill') is located at 281 Huckleberry Hill Road.

Residents may purchase permits in person using cash or check payable to the Town of Avon.

Online purchases are also available using a credit card, debit card, or electronic check.

Officials noted that permits purchased online must be picked up at the Collector of Revenue Office and require up to two business days for processing before pickup.

Transfer station permits are available only to Avon residents.

Proof of residency is required when obtaining a permit.

Town officials said a Connecticut driver's license or identification card showing an Avon address is preferred. New residents may also provide a utility bill listing their name and Avon service address.

Residents purchasing senior permits must be at least 62 years old on the date of purchase and must present identification when obtaining the permit.

According to the town, permits become active on the date they are purchased and remain valid through June 30, 2027. Officials said permit fees will not be prorated for residents who choose to purchase permits later in the year.

The town also noted that in-person permit purchases at the Transfer Station Office will not be available until July 7.

Officials encouraged residents who need to pay local taxes and purchase transfer station permits to complete both transactions during the same visit to the Collector of Revenue Office.
