Avon Still Has Covid Cash To Spend

The town has created a webpage to provide the public with information on the local funding allocation under the American Rescue Plan.

AVON, CT — Town officials announced this week Avon still has about $1.79 million in federal Covid cash to spend, with local leaders expected to hear proposals on how to spend it next month.

The funding comes courtesy of the American Rescue Plan Actn (ARPA) and its designed to reimburse municipalities that had to spend unanticipated dollars to cope with the pandemic.

"The town council continues to discuss and receive additional information on ARPA proposals that have been submitted by town and board of Education staff and members of the public to date," reads an update this week posted online by the town Monday. "As of this writing, a total of $3,619,809 has been appropriated."

Avon officials have put together a “proposed funding plan” worksheet outlining approved and proposed projects.

The Avon Town Council on Thursday, Sept. 1, is expected to receive presentations from town staff on: senior center restroom renovations; senior center cosmetic improvements, Sycamore Hills multi-purpose room; and the town's tech connectivity plan.

"Staff have begun to take steps to implement projects for which appropriations have been approved," the town wrote. "We will provide the town council and the public updates on the status of these projects as they become available."
