Avon Superintendent Heading to EASTCONN

AVON, CT – Superintendent of Schools Gary Mala has resigned to become director of EASTCONN, a public, non-profit, regional educational service center.

Mala has been the local schools chief since March 2011.

His resignation is effective Sept. 1, board of education Chairman Houston Putnam Lowry told the Hartford Courant.

The Courant reported that Mala told the board of his decision to leave on Tuesday, shortly after EASTCONN's board of directors voted to hire him.
