Avon 'Tablescapes' Winner Mixes Construction With Dinner
Combining an inspiring theme with a construction-related design, Avon's 2024 'Tablescapes' winners showed creativity and flair.

AVON, CT — Usually, the winners of the Avon Historical Society's popular "Tablescapes" fundraising event devise entries that resemble something Martha Stewart would do.
But in 2024, the winners of the most over-the-top dinner table setting entered a creation that only "Bob the Builder" would appreciate.

The first-place winners of the Avon Historical Society’s 2024 Tablescapes event — held recently in the Belle Ballroom of The North House in Avon — are Renee Holder and her mother Rose Bennett.
Tablescapes takes the simple pastime of setting a table for dinner and transforms it into the ultimate expression of artistic creativity.

In doing just that, Holder and Bennett created a unique table entitled “If You Can Dream It, You Can Build It.”
Their description reads “CAUTION: Tablescapes Ahead! Stop the traffic and close the road. Dump everything and report to this job site. We’re going to mix up a great time. Hope you can dig it. It’s going to be loads of fun. So, grab a shovel and join the crew.”
It featured all sorts of construction-theme details on the table, including toy construction trucks, construction-theme plates and dishes, small road signs, and tiny traffic cone decorations.
The second-place winner was, “Tea Time with Gramma’s Paper Ladies,” created by Tracy Murphy of Services for the Elderly in Farmington.
The third-place winner was “Bluebirds Bring Happiness” from the Garden Club of Avon.
The Avon Historical Society thanked the sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees for making the event a huge success.
Proceeds were earmarked for the design, creation, and implementation of exhibits for the interior of the Avon History Museum, slated for a soft opening later this year.
