'Avon Talks' Podcast Revisits Memories Of Former Girl Scout Camp

AVON, CT — The latest episode of the Avon Talks podcast features lifelong Avon resident Jeannie Parker sharing her memories of Camp Gertrude Bryant, a Girl Scout camp that operated in town from 1947 to 1965.

Hosted by Jim Pabich, the episode explores the history of the camp, which was located near the site of today's Avon High School.

Parker recalls the experiences of hundreds of girls who attended the camp during its nearly two decades of operation.

Camp activities included learning outdoor skills, singing songs, making crafts, and participating in the broader Girl Scout movement.

According to Parker, the camp played an important role in the lives of many participants by fostering friendships, teaching practical skills, and encouraging leadership that helped many girls become successful women later in life.
