Avon Town Services Adjusted Next Week Due To Funeral Of Ex-Police Chief
Avon Town Hall social services and the food pantry will close on March 3 for the funeral of Joseph A. Martino Jr.
AVON, CT — Several Town of Avon services will operate on a modified schedule on Tuesday, March 3, to allow staff and volunteers to attend funeral services for Joseph A. Martino Jr., a former Avon police chief and co-founder of the Avon Food Pantry.
The Social Services Department at Avon Town Hall will be closed from 10 a.m. to noon.
The Avon Food Pantry and Avon Pet Pantry will be closed for the day. Both pantries will reopen on Wednesday, March 4.

Town officials said the temporary changes will allow employees and volunteers to attend services honoring Martino, who died Tuesday, Feb. 24, at age 88.
In a notice to residents, the town said, “We thank the community for its understanding and cooperation as we come together to say goodbye to a valued member of our community.”

Martino previously served as chief of the Avon Police Department and helped found the Avon Food Pantry, which provides food assistance to residents.
