Avon's Full Weekend Guide: A Halloween Parade Through The Library And A Haunted Village Craft Night

Avon's library hosts a Halloween storytime parade, a teen party, a haunted village craft night and a caricature exhibit's final days.

AVON, CT — Avon's Halloween weekend runs through the Avon Free Public Library, where the youngest patrons can parade the stacks in costume, teens get their own party, and crafters can build a pop-up haunted village.

There's also one last chance to see a gallery full of famous artists drawn as caricatures.

This Weekend's Arts & Entertainment

  • Haunt Your Own House: A Haunted Village Papercraft Workshop — Thursday, Oct. 29, 6 to 7:45 p.m.. Build a "dark and dreadful" pop-up Halloween village from cardboard, duct tape, and spooky accessories in the library's Art Studio. Materials are provided; the craft is aimed at ages 8 and up, and children under 10 need an adult with them. Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road
  • Halloween Storytime & Parade — Friday, Oct. 30, 11 a.m. to noon. The library's annual "spooooky (but not scary!)" storytime for ages 1 to 5 starts upstairs at 11 a.m., followed at 11:30 by a costume parade around the whole library. Costumes are optional, and babies will need to be carried on the stairs. Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road
  • Teen Room Halloween Party — Friday, Oct. 30, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.. Teens in grades 7 to 12 can kick off the weekend with candy, crafts, cupcakes and maybe a scary movie. Costumes are welcome, but no weapons. Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road
  • "ART STARS: Caricatures of Famous Artists From History & Today" by Robert Carley — On view through Saturday, Oct. 31. The final days of the library's October gallery show, in which Carley's detailed sketches capture the lives of more than 200 artists. Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road

Whether it's a haunted village built from duct tape on Thursday or a toddler costume parade on Friday morning, the library has Avon's Halloween weekend covered — just leave time to catch Robert Carley's caricatures before they come down Saturday.
