Avon's Long-Term Recreation Plan Is Done, Now It Wants Input

A draft of Avon's recreation master plan is complete, with local officials now wanting folks to peruse it and offer input to the town.

AVON, CT — Local officials are seeking the public's help as they craft a new plan for the future of Avon's parks and recreation scene.

At a special meeting on Oct. 22, the Avon Town Council received a presentation from the town’s consultant, Weston & Sampson Engineers, Inc., on a draft recreation and parks master plan.

This draft plan is the product of approximately 10 months of effort by the town council, Avom Recreation & Parks Committee, town staff, Weston & Sampson Engineers, and members of the public.

The planning process included public outreach and interviews with, recreation stakeholders, two public meetings in February and March, and a survey released through the town’s website and social media channels.

The town also welcomed and encouraged public comment and it received feedback from many residents through phone and email throughout the process.

A copy of the draft plan has been posted on the town’s website HERE.

The town encourages residents to review the draft and submit comments to Jennifer Filer, Avon's director of recreation and parks, on or before Nov. 20 at 4:30 p.m.

"We would expect the town council to adopt the master [lan, subject to any revisions, at a future meeting," wrote the town in an announcement last week.

The plan is intended to be a guiding document for Avon over the long term (10-plus years).
