Nationwide, the average price for regular gasoline as of Sunday was $3.598 per gallon, in comparison to $2.761 in August last year.
Connecticut's average price for regular gasoline was $3.958 per gallon on Sunday, compared to $3.715 in Massachusetts and $3.907 in New York. That makes Connecticut the state with the highest average regular gasoline price, even higher than Alaska's current $3.909 average. Connecticut's average price for regular gasoline has dropped since Saturday's $3.965 and last Sunday's $4.030.

The average in the Hartford area was $3.928 per gallon, down from $3.935 Saturday and $4.004 a week ago. Last year, at this time, regular gasoline in the Hartford area was $2.867 per gallon.
