Companies including EJ Electric, the Haugland Group, Stanley Black & Decker; Grant Thornton; and Eversource contributed sponsorships to support BBBS of CT’s mission of creating life-changing one-to-one mentoring relationships between children in need and caring adult role models.
“Donations and sponsorships allow us to serve the wonderful children we work with every day, providing at-risk youth from single or no-parent homes with one-on-one support from inspiring mentors who help them reach their highest potential,” said Andy Fleischmann, chief executive officer of the Hartford-based BBBS of CT, to attendees.

“Think of all the people in your lives who acted as mentors to you during your hard times. It’s so important we make sure these great kids get the same kind of support.”
One of those kids is 9-year-old Kaden, a fourth-grader at Duffy Elementary School in West Hartford, who BBBS of CT matched with Big Brother Saurabh Bohra, a web engineer and data advisor at Aetna, in December 2022.
Kaden and Saurabh spoke about how their experiences with mentoring have changed their lives.
“We do many activities like going to the park and reading books at the library,” said Kaden. “I
love my Big Brother so much.”
Bohra said that Kaden has grown significantly during the year and a half
that they’ve been matched, especially in terms of interpersonal skills and socializing.
“He never could have spoken to a group this size when we first met,” Bohra said.
“I hope the Golf Classic spreads the word for how much need there is for Big Brothers Big Sisters
in the community,” said Meredith Young, board member of BBBS of CT. “I hope the event encourages golfers to look into the organization, sponsor an event or become part of the board like I did.”
BBBS of CT’s next golf outing will be the Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentors Classic Sept. 23 at
the Patterson Club in Fairfield.
