Blood Drive To Honor Memory Of Young Avon Man
It will take place at the Avon Senior Center on Saturday, Sept. 28.
AVON, CT — The community is invited to donate blood this weekend in Avon in memory of a young local man who died of cancer in 2021.
September is "Childhood Cancer Awareness Month" and the Red Cross is hosting a blood drive in memory of 21-year-old Chris Swetzes, who battled cancer for years before his passing.
The blood drive will occur in the Avon Senior Center, 635 West Avon Road, Acon, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Swetzes was a 2018 graduate of Avon High School who was passionate about photography, robotics, hiking, and fishing, according to his family.
He battled Ewing's Sarcoma for five years before his passing and had received more than 100 blood transfusions during his treatments.
