Blue Elephant Trail in Avon Raising Funds for Pancreatic Cancer Research

The restaurant is raising funds in memory of former general manager Sohors Tek, who lost her battle to pancreatic cancer in 2012.

The Blue Elephant Trail restaurant in Avon will be raising funds for The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network by offering special menu options in November.

The special items will appear on the menu between Nov. 16 and the 23rd and there will be a cooking class on Nov. 23.

Blue Elephant Trail general manager Sohors Tek lost her battle to pancreatic cancer in Sept. 2012, said Sopheak Tek, her sister who is involved with the restaurant. Her direct donation page is here.

The restaurant is donating 30 percent of sales on Sohors’ favorite menu items to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. She had a sweet tooth and some of her favorites include Thai iced tea, Bluefeld riesling, mango sticky rice, chili salmon and loc lac.

“We hope to honor Sohors’ memory by eating her favorite foods this month,” said Executive Chef Soden Tek. “Her dream was always to repay this Connecticut community with our food and friendship, in the same way our family was welcomed and nurtured here. Although she is gone, we hope our friends will join us and share her favorite foods. In a way, it helps her live on.”

Funds raised from the cooking class will also benefit pancreatic research.

“In addition to menu specials, we will host a cooking class in our kitchen to raise funds for research,” said Brian Keo, General Manager of The Elephant Trail. “It keeps with Sohors’ desire to not only serve our friends and family, but teach our recipes and share our story. Of 100 people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year, only 6 will be alive in 5 years. We want to do our part in raising awareness and supporting the community of patients and families.”
