Bonino Hoping Stanley Cup Visit to Avon Means Big Donation to CCMC

The Stanley Cup is coming to Avon Old Farms Sunday.

AVON, CT – National Hockey League star Nick Bonino is bringing the Stanley Cup to Avon Old Farms for the second year in a row in an effort to raise money for Connecticut Children's Medical Center.

The Cup is scheduled for a Sunday appearance at the school.

Bonino was on the 2017 Cup-winning Pittsburgh Penguin squad. He is a 2007 graduate who grew up in Farmington and played high school hockey at Avon Old Farms under coach John Gardner.

Before joining the Penguins, Bonino played for the Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks.

Bonino recently signed a four-year contract with the Nashville Predators.

The 2017 Championship was the Penguins’ fifth Stanley Cup win. As a member of the cup winner, Bonino was given the chance to have the cup for a day — an NHL custom that plays out year-after-year.

To raise money for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, this year Bonino will be charging $10 per person for admission - cash only, and is limiting admission to the first 3,000 people.

The event is scheduled to begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday and Bonino will be visiting the Center immediately after the event at Avon Old Farms.

He Tweeted that his goal is to raise $30,000, up from the $6,000 he donated last year from the Cup viewing event.
